UMass Hosts BC In 'Friends Of Jaclyn' Game Saturday

UMass Hosts In-State Rival Boston College
• After nearly a week off for both teams, UMass and Boston College meet this Saturday for Commonwealth bragging rights. The Minutewomen (1-6) are coming a tough 18-2 loss at No. 1 Northwestern, while Boston College (2-4) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 10-9 win at Virginia Tech.
• UMass is led by Kaytlin McCormick who has 13 goals and 4 assists for the season. Melynda Zwick ranks second on the team with 5 goals and 4 assists.
• For Boston College, Lauren Costello and Jenna McCabe each have 17 goals on the season to lead the Eagles. Maura Mahoney ranks third on the team in scoring with 7 goals and 10 assists.

UMass, BC Play For Friends Of Jaclyn
• Saturday's game will be played to honor two very special people, Lexie Williams and Judith Theriault. In conjunction with the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, which works to help children afflicted with pediatric brain tumors, UMass adopted Lexie last year, while Boston College adopted Judith this year. The teams work with the girls offering support and encouragement.
• Donations will be accepted at today's game with the proceeds going directly to the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation. The foundation takes all proceeds and donates to organizations which work to help children and families who are dealing with pediatric brain tumors.
• Last season, UMass played Northwestern in front of an NCAA regular-season record crowd of 3,075 fans in Yorktown, N.Y., to help raise over $38,000 for the foundation.

Last Time Out
• No. 1 Northwestern scored 11 straight goals in the first half to break a 1-1 tie en route to an 18-2 win over UMass. The Wildcats racked up 43 shots in the game while holding UMass to just eight.
• Melynda Zwick and Kelsey Schreiner tallied the lone goals for UMass. Evanston, Ill., native Colleen Speth started in net making a career-high 11 saves in front of her hometown friends and family. Up Next
• UMass will close out its non-conference schedule on Tuesday when New Hampshire visits McGuirk Stadium. The opening draw is slated for 3 p.m.
• The series with New Hampshire is the longest in program history with this being the 37th all-time meeting. The Wildcats hold a slight 18-16-2 advantage in the series.
• UMass lost a heartbreaker to New Hampshire last season in Durham, 11-10. Kathleen Typadis scored four goals for UMass, while Melynda Zwick added two goals and two assists.

The Series With Boston College
• This will be the 20th all-time meeting between the two programs with UMass holding a 12-7 advantage over Boston College. The series first began in 1981 - a 12-1 UMass win. The Minutewomen won the first eight consecutive meetings before the Eagles earned their first win in the series in 1989.
• Last season's meeting needed the overtime heroics of Holly Drown and Melynda Zwick as the Minutewomen prevailed 10-9 in Chestnut Hill. UMass scored twice in the final nine minutes of play to tie the game before Zwick found Drown for the game-winning goal with just 12 seconds remaining in overtime.
• Drown and Kathleen Typadis each scored three goals to lead UMass. Lauren Costello led all scorers with four goals and an assist.

McCormick Off To Strong Start
• After redshirting last season due to a leg injury, attack Kaytlin McCormick has returned to the line-up and leads the Minutewomen in goals and points this season.
• She has two hat tricks in the first five games.
• McCormick had a fantastic rookie campaign in 2006 where she was the second leading scorer on the team with 31 goals and played in every game of the year.

Pasquantonio Off To Quick Start
• In the first game of the season Julie Pasquantonio matched her season totals from a year ago by scoring two goals and assisting on one. In six games played, she has six goals and an assist.
• Pasquantonio has played in 20 career games with 10 points on the strength of eight goals and two assists.

Experienced Defense
• Julie Papaleo and Jackie Rosenzweig are the anchors of the defensive row for UMass this season. Papaleo is a three-year starter, while Rosenzweig has started every game of her career (42 games).
• Papaleo ranks sixth all-time in career caused turnovers (54), while Rosenzweig ranks seventh with 47.

Minutewomen Picked To Finish Second In A-10
• In the Preseason Atlantic 10 Coaches Poll, UMass was picked to finish second in the conference.
• UMass finished fifth in the conference standings last season.
• Defending league champion Richmond was picked to repeat as league champ.

Playing The Nation's Best
• The 2008 schedule includes six teams who are ranked in the Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Top-20 including the No. 1 Wildcats, No. 4 Maryland and No. 10 Yale.
• Boston University, Dartmouth and Richmond were also ranked in the preseason poll giving UMass one of the toughest schedules in the country.
• In the first seven games of the season, four teams have been ranked in the Top-20 polls.

Lyons Named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week
• Jackie Lyons was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week after helping the Minutewomen to a 1-1 record in their opening week of play. Lyons netted a pair of goals in the 9-5 win over Holy Cross and led the team for the week in groundballs and caused turnovers.
• Lyons scored two goals on three shots for the week and collected four groundballs and caused five turnovers in her first two collegiate games.
• A native of Rocky Point, N.Y., Lyons was a standout player at Rocky Point High School where she was a three-time All-American selection.

Typadis Named To 2008 Tewaaraton Watch List
• UMass women's lacrosse senior attack Kathleen Typadis has been selected to the 2008 Tewaaraton Watch List - the sport's highest honor for a collegiate player. She is one of just 44 players nationally named to the watch list. Typadis entered the 2008 season as the No. 3 active goal scorer in the nation and had scored a goal in 45 consecutive games before being held scoreless at Dartmouth this year.She needs just 36 goals this year to set the career scoring record at UMass.
• The Tewaaraton selection committee will trim the list to under 20 later in the year before the finalist for the award are announced at the end of the season.
• Typadis had a banner year in 2007 scoring 52 goals and 60 points. She broke the 23-year standing single-season goals scored record at UMass. She currently ranks second all-time at UMass in career goals with 135 and ranks sixth in career points (152).
• She was one of just 15 players nationally to break the 50 goal barrier last season - a list that included six 2006 All-Americans, six 2007 Preseason All-Americans, five 2007 Tewaaraton Finalists, and the 2006 Tewaaraton Award Winner Kristen Kjellman of Northwestern.
• Following last season, Typadis earned a tryout with the U.S. National Elite/Developmental Teams as one of 98 players invited to the summer camp.
• One of the most prolific scorers in UMass history, Typadis is a two-time All-Atlantic 10 selection and a two-time IWLCA All-Region honoree earning first-team recognition for both groups last year.
